These Things: To Inspire Wonder (Kind of a big announcement)
I love riding a bicycle and so I ride a bicycle because I love riding a bicycle and other people ride bicycles for other reasons and so I think that’s great to see other people on bicycles and hear about their ride and wonder if they do an A, B, C pre-ride bike check like I do or if they’re interested in pedal-powered furniture and home decorations or pedal-powered podcasts–Do the Oscars Still Matter?
It’s great to be back on the ride with the podcast even though it may be moving toward a vlog and a little less a podcast but the crux of it still is that the primary discussion will be unedited and on a bicycle and mostly discussions about films and movies and cinema, and if you have opinions on any of this I’m open to hear them but you should try the old Blaise Pascal trick where you tell someone they’re right to tell them they’re wrong which David Foster Wallace applied to the power of eloquence.
But this isn’t the big news I promised in the last edition which is that we’re starting a film festival!
Sunset Grove Film Festival
We’ve been presenting “tiny film festivals” in our living room since 2010 but in November wanted to invite more people than could fit in our living room so decided to start the Sunset Grove Film Festival (thanks Boise fam for the idea!).
Our goal is to inspire wonder and uplift the consciousness of the planet through short films. We plan to present four “tiny film festivals” October through June ending with a Summer Solstice screening and party in Boise. Additionally, we’re creating a library of short films, curated sets of short films, that we can license to organizations to host their own film festivals for fundraising, corporate parties, or private events. This allows us to pay filmmakers screening fees every time their film is shown.
Check it out at www.sunsetgrovefilmfest.com .
Please help us by forwarding this page to any filmmaker you know who has a short film that they would like us to review. We’re taking short film submissions now via FilmFreeway.com.
Want to experience the beauty, humor, and wonder of short films at our next tiny film festival?
Saturday, April 18, 2020, 6pm at Beside Bardenay, Downtown Boise
Saturday, June 20, 2020 (Summer Solstice), 6pm TBD, Boise.
Sign up for notifications on the Sunset Grove Film Festival website to be notified when tickets go on sale (psst, it’ll be February 13, 2020).
Ok, ok, I know, but I’m excited to tell you about the new project. Look, I’m not going to make this blog/email a SGFF marketing channel, but if you’re interested in notifications about our film festival, please sign up. I know, did it again.
