The Detail is in the Light
A camera is a tool for learning to see the world without a camera.
— Dorothea Lange
It kind of seems like a lot going on these days and so I’m (finally!!) taking a photography class and learning a little how I can be more intentional with this Canon 80D that I love shooting with so after class last week I was cruising through some of the photography channels I follow on YouTube and Sean Tucker’s video “Protect Your Highlights: A Lesson for Light and Life” was recommended and so I watched it and well Sean is a very thoughtful man and talks through techniques in photography of exposing for highlights in order to preserve detail in the lighter parts of an image—and then he extended this idea into how in life too, we have to look for the highlights, to preserve the light, and let the shadows fall off as they will.
These things too inspired me recently:
The Meaning in the Making: The why and how behind our human need to create. Sean Tucker’s thoughtful book on his struggle and practice as a professional photographer and human with chapter titles like: order, logos, breath, voice, ego, control, attention, and envy. I highly recommend this book for artists and professional creatives.
iPhones in old paintings — Is this evidence of Time Travellers? Fun article to remind us that our minds have a tendency to perceive patterns as meaningful whether they really are—aka pareidolia.
3 Foods the Fittest People in the World Eat Consistently. Wine doesn’t appear on this list? I appreciate the simplicity of this article with just enough explanation to inspire me to eat enough of the good things every day. They all just grow in dirt with a little light too.
How to Be an Excellent Gift Giver. I know we know comma but ‘tis the season.
Yippie Ki Yay. We know Bruce, it’s not a Christmas movie...that we watch every year...at Christmas.
